Timurids, Late 14th to Early 15th Centuries
|
This range represents the armies of one of the greatest conquerors of all time -- Timur-i Lenk, also known as Tamerlane (or many variants of that spelling). This legendarily cruel and ruthless man forged for himself an enormous empire, using armies with a core of Turco-Mongol cavalry to crush the Mamluks, Ottomans, Delhi Sultanate,
assorted Persian dynasties and Golden Horde on the battlefield.
Turcoman horse archers can be fielded using the Later Turkoman horse archers below, but it's totally appropriate to mix in some of the Timurid bow armed heavy cavalry on unarmoured horses or the Persian heavy cavalry with hand weapons in the units.
Note that all cavalry sets are available with armoured or unarmoured horses -- if an image is not available, the riders are the same as in the other set, but provided with the opposite type of horse (which horses are also visible elsewhere on the page).
We have also added codes for Timurid Persian cavalry -- these ethnically Persian dynasties, which filled the power vacuum left after the fall of the Ilkhanids, were foes of Timur for much of his reign. The troops from conquered Persian Dynasties were added to his army. We will eventually be adding command and some infantry codes to
permit the Islamic Persian Dynasties to be fielded in opposition to Timur (and each other), such as the Muzaffarids, Sarbadarids, Karts of Herat, and Injuids.
